It happened so quickly, I didn’t even have the chance to blink. 

I had just gotten married on October 25th, 2008 to the man I’d loved for over 9 years. Yes it took me awhile to get him down that aisle, but it finally did happen. 

We were to spend our honeymoon in Ocho Rios Jamaica for 8 lovely days and I’d thought it might be a good idea to bring a book with me.

You know, to help pass the time on the plane, during our hour and a half drive to our resort from the Airport, and also for lounging on the beach/pool side. It had sadly been a while since I had picked up a book at this time in my life so I had enlisted the opinions of my co-workers and boss asking the simple question;

“What book should I bring on my honeymoon?”

Up to this point I had heard of Twilight but I was one to always hate trends and jump on bandwagon’s but the way my boss and co-worker talked about it… it interested me.  

I remember sitting in the Fort Lauderdale Airport waiting to board the plane and cracking the book open for the first time.

I remember the first time I got goosebumps… it didn’t take long, and it surely wasn’t the last time it would happen either.

“I’d never given much thought to how I would die- though I’d had reason enough in the last few months- but even if I had, I would not have imagined it like this.” 

Yes thats right… the very first sentence of the Preface and I was already doomed. 

Now my husband is a very understanding man thankfully and he knows how I get when I get into a good book, but I don’t think he ever thought it would get as bad as it has. If he did I don’t think he would ever have allowed me to read that first sentence.

Needless to say I made sure we spent a good few hours on the beach or poolside those first two days of our honeymoon (and there were a few hours I spent with my book light after he’d gone to bed for the night). I know that sounds awful, but thankfully after a day and a half I completed Twilight and the rest of our honeymoon was saved. 

I guess I should admit though that it was pure torture waiting to get back to the states in order to buy the next book in the saga, New Moon. 

Upon landing we dropped my mom off at home, she had picked us up from the airport, then went to Barns & Nobles, and then went to cast our votes in the 2008 election. Yes, the book came before voting for change in America. 

My Twilight addiction began only a few days after my marriage to the man I had already spent the last 9 years of my life with, and to this day my husband wonders what happened the woman he had married.
